Mothers Day Thoughts (+gift ideas)

It’s my first Mothers Day as a mom, and it’s a little weird. I’ve always celebrated my mom, and up until about a week ago, it didn’t even occur to me that I get to celebrate, too.

Elliot, on the other hand, has kept these new parental holidays top of mind, and has been dropping hints for Father’s Day gifts since Will was born.

Yes, honey, I took notes.

I mean, yeah I’m a mom, and that means I count, but I definitely struggle with the impostor syndrome of “well I haven’t been a mom that long”, or “I haven’t really figured anything out yet”.

I’ve noticed that it’s hard for moms to say they’re good moms, but its so easy to say “I’m a bad mom.” It’s easy to think we’re not doing enough. It’s easy to believe that everyone else is doing better than we are, and that we’re not good enough.

Well, as of right now, I’m calling myself (and everyone else) out on that one:

I made and birthed a human child and have kept him alive and healthy. He is happy, he is developing on schedule, and I do whatever I have to to keep it that way. I feed him. I clothe him. I bathe him. I play with him. We read books and sing songs and go outside and look at trees. I get up early in the morning to produce extra milk so that he always has enough to eat, and he is a HUNGRY boy.

I count. I’m a mom. A real one.

A good one.

If you have a mother in your life who is doing a great job, tell them. It never hurts to show a little extra appreciation for the moms who are trying so hard, day in and day out. And if you need a few gift ideas for your favorite mom, I could probably come up with a few ideas.

Mani/pedi.

New swimsuit.

Flowers and a card.

Gift card for coffee or lunch.

Handmade candle (I’m obsessed with this local company, Kent County Candles).

Hey Dudes.

New workout outfit.

Cleaning out their car (or a whole detail!).

Kindle.

Earrings (maybe birthstones?).

Planned day trip for the family.
