5 New Things I Love

It’s been a busy, beautiful, exciting, stressful season, but we are so grateful for this home and the many blessings we have received throughout this process. While I would never, ever, not in a thousand years, EVER recommend moving with a baby, we’re finally starting to settle. It’s been almost two months since we’ve moved in and in the settling, we’re starting to realize that maybe the place where we unpacked the thing, isn’t actually the best place for that thing. We’re in the midst of reorganizing, moving things around, and figuring out what things we need and what things we really don’t.
It’s a gift to be able to do this slowly, taking our time in choosing exactly what we want and making spaces work for us. Which means there will likely be a Part 2 to this post sometime in the future.
While I’m nowhere near finished with making our home “ours”, I’ve purchased a few items over the last couple of months that really make our house feel like home.
tumble rug.
For starters, I have a Ruggable - it’s a large area rug and it was actually gifted to me in my local Buy Nothing group. It’s currently in our nursery, and looks beautiful, but I’m just not crazy about it.
For those of you who don’t know what a Ruggable is, it’s a machine-washable rug that fits in your washing machine. It comes apart in two pieces. - the top (with the design that you walk on) and the bottom (rug pad) - and they velcro together.
It’s thin, and doesn’t lay as flat as I’d like after washing. When looking for a doormat for inside my front door, I knew I wanted something pretty, but easy to clean. I purchased this rug from Tumble, another company that makes machine-washable rugs, and I am so happy with it. The rug pad is cushioned and much thicker, and it comes with grip pads to keep the rug from moving. It’s pretty, comfortable to walk on, and doesn’t move around. I’m a fan. media console.
In our last house, our TV was mounted above our fireplace in a corner, so we used the mantle for our media equipment. This house does not have the same setup, and we found ourselves in need of a piece of furniture to house these items. I looked at a lot of options, and I wanted something with clean lines, modern but neutral. I found this one at Crate & Barrel, and when Elliot saw how many cutouts it had on the back, it was a go. It came in a month ago, and I LOVE it. It’s so pretty, very sturdy and holds so much.
area rugs.
Okay, bear with me, I bought a total of 3 new rugs when we moved in - the doormat and two large area rugs. I saw these rugs shared by a local influencer and I loved the style and the price. I mean, I needed new rugs anyway, so why not. These are stunning and super low-pile, but thick and cushy. I also got this thick rug pad for both and they’re very comfy to walk on. This one is in my dining room and this one is in my living room (above).
wine rack.
I’m not entirely comfortable sharing this, but oh well. In our last home, I got a tad creative with what we had (because I’m stupid frugal and don’t like spending money unnecessarily) and “made” a wine rack in my pantry. A handful of paint cans and some white wire shelving and all of my wine bottles were stored properly. Pleasing to the eye? Not in the slightest. Shockingly enough, I decided that I was not going to repeat that in this house, so I bought this lovely wood wine rack on Amazon. It’s sturdy, easy to assemble and holds a lot of wine. If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some stocking up to do.
gym upgrade.
One of my favorite parts of this house is our partially finished basement. We’ve split the unfinished side into storage and gym space. We had a small gym in our basement in our last house, but this one is more than twice the size. We bought more stall mats from Tractor Supply and covered the entire floor in our gym area and now have plenty of room for any kind of workout. These are the one’s we have.
