A Mother’s Day Journey
To be honest, this Mother’s Day is kind of a weird one for me. While I did finally remember that I, too, am a mom, I haven’t really been making plans to celebrate or anything. I’m a bit preoccupied with the rapidly approaching day that I become a mom of not just one, but two.
While I’m not quite due for another two weeks, Will came almost three weeks early, so there’s a part of me that’s anticipating this baby anytime.
However, over the last couple of months, I’ve been trying to soak up every last bit of just being Will’s mom. Last year I shared a little bit about what it is to be “Will’s mom” (you can check it out here), and it is still one of my favorite parts of myself. And now, in what seems like no time at all, there will be another little wonder who fills just as much of my heart as he does, and I really don’t know how that’s even possible. But I know it will, and everything that is currently as natural as breathing will change with the addition of my new identity as “Norah’s mom”, too.
Whether I’m a mom of one or two this Mother’s Day, I feel so blessed to be on this journey with these amazing children who are each so unique and special in their own way. I am so excited to watch Will grow into a wonderful big brother who can’t wait to push his little sister in her stroller, show her how to hug her stuffed animals, and also monitor every single thing she does to make sure she’s following the rules. I have a feeling she is going to be as wild as he is structured, and it’s going to be the most interesting and hilarious thing that has ever happened to our lives.
So here’s to the moms of multiples, who have had their hearts stolen by their firstborns, only to find themselves expanding in ways they never thought possible. You are amazing. And here’s to every mom - in whatever capacity you mother, whether it be as a stepmom, grandmother, aunt, foster mom, whatever - thank you for stretching yourself for your children and loving them so well.
Happy Mother’s Day!
