5 Things That Made My Day Lately

Sometimes I wonder if some of us hit a slump at the same time or everyone’s slumping at different times, overlapping on everyone else’s slumps. The last couple of weeks have not been the easiest, Will’s nanny was on vacation, my family has been sick and it’s awful outside. Even the air is heavy. Ugh.

It’s times like these that I like to focus on the little things that unexpectedly bring me joy - a really good cup of coffee, a quiet morning, a treat - so today, I’m sharing some things that have totally brightened my day lately.

the olympics.

I’ve really enjoyed watching the Olympics this year. I recorded the whole thing on YouTube TV, so I can catch up on the equestrian and gymnastics events while hanging out or writing. It’s amazing to watch and so wholesome to see the international support between athletes. I’ve even watched some unreal table tennis, crew, judo and swimming.

decorating for fall.

I really don’t care what anyone thinks. I work mostly from home and I desperately wanted to pretend it wasn’t 95 degrees outside, so I put out my pumpkins. When we got back from vacation, I really didn’t want to worry about the upcoming work week, so Will and I went to HomeGoods and came home with THREE MORE pumpkins (I had a gift card so we splurged) and they are just so lovely. I love the glass ones that have lights inside - the glow is so soft and cozy. The fall vibes in my house are exactly what I needed and it makes me so happy I sometimes do a little dance when all my pumpkins are glowing and my candles are lit. It is what dreams are made of.

Yes, I have a toddler and bought glass pumpkins. And yes, all my shelves are high up on the walls, I promise. I’m not totally nuts.

new buffet.

We were recently gifted a buffet for our dining room and I didn’t know I needed one until now. It totally completes the room and holds so much stuff! I actually have a home for all my china and table linens and I just can’t believe how I’ve never had one before now. And yes, of course I immediately added a pumpkin.

Will helped with a chore!

I’ve been trying to include Will in easy chores and he’s never been interested (go figure), but this week, he helped feed the dogs! I still scooped the food, but he poured it out himself and put the scoop back and was very proud of himself. I’m so impressed by my little guy.

highlands (song of ascent).

I heard this song for the first time at church this past Sunday, and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. It’s just the most beautiful worship song. Enjoy.
