March Highlights

I feel like I start a LOT of blog posts with “If I’m being completely honest..”

SO I’m not going to do that, because I like being unpredictable approximately 3 times a year.

What I will say, is that when I sit down and try to sift through everything that happened this month, my head starts to hurt. Not that it was a bad month, it was just a LOT. So I’m going to stick with the happy fun stuff that doesn’t make my brain hurt.

I should make that a rule -

“If it makes my brain hurt, it has no place on the blog.”

There you have it.

Anyway, here’s the fun stuff.

back to work.

I went back to work on February 28th, and while it was super hard to not hang out with Will all day every day, it’s been great. I really do love my job and it’s nice to be a grown up for a chunk of the day.

overnight oats.

With the return to work, I needed to create a new routine for the morning. I think I tried 3 different morning routines before I found one I like, but here we are. Currently, my routine is to wake up around 4 to pump, and then I eat some breakfast, read my Bible and then either read a book or write a blog post or whatever else I want to do. Then I work out. Usually I try to get all that done before Will wakes up. While I like that I have time while the baby sleeps, it’s too early to worry about making breakfast every morning, so I’ve been making myself some overnight oats to have ready to go whenever I get hungry. It takes ten minutes to prep 3-4 jars of oats, and I have a filling breakfast for several days. It’s a real life hack.

mom jeans.

Is it cliche? Probably. But I celebrated my last day of maternity leave by treating myself to new jeans. I tried mom jeans, since, you know, I’m a mom now, and I LOVE THEM. I don’t think I’ve ever had a pair of jeans fit me so well. I may never go back. I got 2 pairs from American Eagle (my denim go-to), one stretch and one strigid.

Get this.

Strigid = Rigid in the front (sucks everything in) + Stretchy in the back.

It is brilliant, I tell you. If you’re in the market for some mom jeans, or want to try them, get those. 10/10 would recommend.

turkey day.

Since 2020, we have done a Turkey Day in March. It started when COVID-19 hit in mid-March. We were on vacation when things were ramping up and returned home the day schools closed. We had been gone for 10 days, so naturally, our fridge was empty. So were grocery stores. However, we did have a whole frozen turkey from when turkeys were on super sale the previous November and I bought an extra. We cooked ourselves a turkey and had a mini-Thanksgiving in March. And now we do it every year. This year, Elliot grilled the turkey and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

myx bike.

I treated myself and got a stationary bike. It’s the BeachBody version of a Peloton and it is SO COOL. I get a great workout in 30 minutes, and I don’t have to go outside on cold days to get my cardio in. Which is actually a big deal these days because who knew pregnancy and having a kid totally wrecked your cardio health? Not me. Ya girl was HUFFING and PUFFING on my first ride and I thought I was going to die. But I didn’t and now I cycle several times a week and I can feel my lungs coming back.

That’s March for ya. Hello April!

“Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.” Zechariah 10:1
