I have to brag a little bit on my husband today.

This year, Elliot has challenged himself to take me on 52 dates this year (one for every week of the year for those of you who are math-challenged. JK, it’s me. I’m math-challenged.)

My husband knows my love language is quality time, immediately followed by words of affirmation. Receiving gifts is last on my list, so he has made a point to nurture that by creating time once a week to simply enjoy each other’s company. I am so excited to spend this year dating Elliot, because here’s a secret: I have a HUGE crush on him.

Be cool, don’t tell him or anything.

Anyway, Valentine’s Day is about showing your partner in crime that you love them, and sometimes that means you give them gifts. Sometimes that means you spend some uninterrupted time with them. Sometimes you do a task for them or help them out so they can relax, and sometimes you simply tell them how much they mean to you. It helps to know your partner’s love language so that you can show your love effectively, so if you don’t, I would recommend taking the Love Language quiz here.

I’ve mentioned all of my feelings about this holiday before - check out 10 Sweet Valentine’s Gifts Under $20 and The Holiday I Never Liked for all the Valentine’s content your little heart desires.

As a not-so-gifty person and also not a huge V-Day person, my Valentine’s preferences are simple. Cards are perfect (hint: Words of Affirmation). Maybe a small gift or flowers but that’s it. Minimal shopping required.

However, I know there are a lot of people who love Valentine’s Day. People love love. Some people love a special gift that shows how much they are loved, and if that’s you, be my friend and teach me the gifting ways.

This year I’m off the hook, as Elliot and I will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on a trip, but maybe I’ll snag a card to bring along. Maybe.

Even though I’m not exactly shopping this year, of course I made a little Valentine’s gift guide for you guys. It has a little bit of everything for your significant other. Big gifts, little gifts, and some that can’t be wrapped - whatever kind of gesture would bring a smile to your loved one’s face and let them know they are special and cared for. They say it’s the thought that counts, and at least for me, a sweet gesture speaks volumes.

  1. Handwritten Card

  2. Fresh Flowers - delivered or from the grocery store (Groupon has great deals for delivered flowers)

  3. Spontaneous breakfast or lunch date

  4. Moissanite Earrings - as sparkly as diamonds, for a fraction of the price Elliot bought me these and I love them!

  5. Gift card for a massage or spa treatment - or give one yourself 😉

  6. Surprise them with their favorite homemade treat

  7. Plan a fun date night at home (or get a subscription to DateBox).

  8. Bathtub Caddy/Breakfast Tray - for breakfast-in-bed and/or self-care.

  9. Robotic Vacuum - ok not romantic but I just got one of these and it is truly a love language all of its own.

  10. Snazzy Pocketknife or Leatherman - idk why but Elliot loves this kind of stuff.

  11. Clean the house as a surprise so you can spend an evening together.

  12. Create a scavenger hunt - play a game to find small gifts or notes saying what you love about them

  13. New Watch

  14. Make their favorite meal and have a candlelit dinner - with the good china!

This particular gift guide is geared toward your significant other. For gift ideas for friends, siblings, parents, grandparents, or anyone else you’re a fan of, check out my other posts, linked below (and above, for that matter).
