Hey friends! It's me, your favorite Valentine's Day Grinch!
Just kidding. But if you wanna read about how I don't actually hate Valentine's Day, check out The Holiday I Never Liked.
For as long as I can remember, my dad has always done Valentine's Day.
Every Valentine's Day, we would wake up and get ready, like any other day, but when we came out to the kitchen for breakfast, there were gifts for his girls. There would be a small, heart-shaped box of chocolates and a card from my dad, for my sister and I, and my mom usually had a bouquet of roses on the table with her card and chocolates. Sometimes there were helium balloons or something else, but the card and chocolates were standard. When I was in college, he even made a point to come visit me so he could personally deliver a card, chocolates and a balloon, which I definitely kept for weeks in my dorm until it was 100% deflated.
For me, it's not about going all out on one day to show you love someone. It's about the little things. And I love getting little things on my kitchen table in the morning.
Love is in the little things.
It's in the acts of service and the kind, encouraging words. It's in the loving embrace, and the time spent together. And on Valentine's Day especially, it's in the little gifts.
And....because I like presents, I have compiled a little list of Valentine's gifts $20 and under for literally anyone you wanna love on a little extra this Valentine's Day.
Coffee Gift Card.
I have never met anyone who receives a gift card to a coffee shop and says "darn, I really don't like being able to pick me up a little pick-me-up whenever I want!" I mean, come on, even if you don't drink coffee, there's tea and other delightful things to enjoy.
Grocery Store Flowers.
People are sleeping on ACME flowers. I'm telling you, these are one of my favorite things. They're so cute, and like $5-$12. Sometimes Elliot will pick some up and I'm like 😍😍😍 LOVE.
Self-Care Stuff.
Don't come at me with "I don't like being pampered." It's equally as ridiculous as the anti-coffee shop blurb. Self-care is important for both men and women, and there are enough smell good things to make the world go round, like beard stuff, face masks (this one is my fave right now), or little travel size beauty products, like this adorable eyeshadow palette.
This might actually be the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life, but also, can I have one and make my own candlelit little fondue date? My little heart could burst!
P.S. - Also, like, cheese and chocolate. How could any of that be a bad idea??
Mug with Hot Cocoa Bombs.
Um, okay, so I recently found out that you can MAKE your own hot cocoa bombs, and my mind is blown. I found this how-to guide on Pinterest, and I think it would make just the sweetest little gift in a cute mug from Marshall's, am I right?
Book You Know They'll Love.
For the readers, there's nothing more thoughtful than a gift that says, "I read this and thought you would really enjoy it, so I got you a copy."
Coffee Accessories.
I feel like making fancy coffee at home is just one of the perks of quarantine, and since we are coffee enthusiasts, we have acquired quite the collection of fun products to make some extra special coffee. Elliot loves this cold brew maker, if you're into cold coffee, or a fun milk frother for hot drinks!
Plants.
For the plant lover in your life, an adorable little succulent or leafy green friend is a wonderful gift! I've grown a little attached to mine, even though I almost killed them off a couple times, and little baby succulents are just SO CUTE! 🌵
You don't know how handy these things are until you have one. I just got one for Christmas, and I love it! I use it for photos and videos, sure, but also for FaceTiming, and a bunch of other things!
Personalized Gift.
There are so many options for personalizing things these days, and I like to order handmade items from Etsy! Like this night sky star map, or a photo on wood, these gifts have a deeper meaning but don't have to break the bank!
I hope this was helpful, because giving gifts is such a blessing, and sometimes we stress about finding a great gift.
You can wreck a blessing with stressing.
So don't stress, love on your loved ones, and take a moment to love yourself as well.
You're a treasure, and you are treasured.
"And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony." Colossions 3:14
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
