Next week, Will will be six months old.

There is absolutely NO WAY I had a baby six months ago, but here we are and this little guy has been a part of our lives for half a year. I had no idea how quickly this would go by and I’m trying to soak up every moment I get with him. One of my main focuses for him is to encourage development that he’s interested in and ready for, but letting him take his time in each stage that he’s in. Too many of us grow up too quickly. I want him to be a child as long as he can.

In this current stage, Will is much more interested in books than ever before. He loves looking at pictures and if the book sings or makes any sound, it’s an instant win. My mom has one about Elmo using the potty and she is convinced that it’s Will’s favorite because it makes a toilet flushing sound. I refuse to believe that my son’s favorite book is about using the toilet. I just can’t.

In one of the parenting books we read, The Wonder Weeks (it’s really interesting - I highly recommend), it shares that you can tell early on if your child is especially engaged by a certain sense (sight, sound or touch). We figured out early on that Will loves sounds. He loves music and it almost always calms him down. It makes sense that a book with sounds would be a hit.

Am I desperately trying to explain that my child does not love the toilet book? Yes.

That said, I’m rapidly realizing how quickly this tiny person is growing up, so I’m going to be sharing some of his favorite things - books, toys, shows, etc. - in the next few weeks before he grows out of them. For this post, I’ve gathered a list of our favorite books.

Rebekah & Will’s Favorite Books

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, ‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’ ” Matthew 18:1-3

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
