5 Things I Do To Bring In Spooky Season

It’s October 5, and while it’s a very annoying 80 degrees out this week, spooky season is upon us.

While I’m not super into Halloween, there are aspects of this season that I think are really fun. I don’t like scary movies or attractions, I don’t dress up, and I’m not into skeletons on everything. However, I love the silly Halloween movies, carving pumpkins, handing out candy and enjoying the time of year that kids get to dress up and have fun and get some free candy. I’m all about free candy.

To be honest, I’m very behind on my Halloween vibes and I had completely forgotten about spooky season until, well, Sunday. We were on our way home from a weekend away and I remembered that it’s finally October, my favorite month of all time, mind you, and I hadn’t done a single thing regarding Halloween.

Heck, I haven’t even bought a single pumpkin yet. What am I DOING?!?

Well, if you must know, I’m figuring out how to live my life with a tiny, needy child who is adorable and commandeers all of my free time.

And, due to said child, I’m giving myself a little bit of grace. This year might be a little less on the decorations and vibes front, but a whole lot more in the snuggles and memories front.

So this year, I’m doing just a few things to enjoy spooky season, AKA, October, and all of the fun silly things that go along with this time of year.

putting up lights.

Every year, we put up orange and purple lights for fall and I just love them. They give a fun, spooky vibe to our home without putting a bunch of stuff in the yard. Every time I come home and see them, it puts a smile on my face. These are the ones I get and I love them; they’re super bright and sturdy and we’ve never had an issue with them.

watching movies and shows with Halloween vibes.

This year, I’m feeling Casper (one of my childhood faves and I haven’t seen it in FOREVER), Harry Potter, at least one Halloweentown, and of course, Hocus Pocus.

pumpkins.

I haven’t gotten them yet, but I will, and heck, I might even carve one this year.

spooky books.

Earlier this year, I started a list of books I wanted to read this season to get in the spooky mood. I always read at least one Agatha Christie novel (she is the queen of mysteries, after all), maybe a fantasy book, and another twisty mystery. I recently started The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley; it was listed as similar to Agatha Christie’s books. I’ll let you know how it goes.

buy candy.

It’s Halloween, it’s kind of the thing to do. I give mine away to cute kids (but not all of it). Do what you want with yours. I won’t tell.
