January Highlights

Whew. It has BEEN a January, friends.
When I prepped this post, I looked back on the month and couldn’t believe it’s only been a few weeks long. It feels like its been AT LEAST 90 days of this.
About two weeks ago, we started potty training Will, and let me tell you, it is a doozy. We’re about halfway through the steps, but let me tell you, being stuck indoors with a naked toddler for days on end will make anyone crazy. It doesn’t help that the weather has been pretty yucky, so we can’t even go outside to enjoy some sunshine for more than 15 minutes at a time. Not that there’s been tons of sun to begin with.
Anyway, we’re making progress, but we are very tired and I cannot wait to be done.
That said, there isn’t a whole lot of exciting stuff in the highlights this month, but here they are.
2024 review lunch date.
In the beginning of the month, Elliot and I went out for a quick lunch date and discussed a handful of questions reviewing 2024 and talking about hopes and dreams for 2025. It was an uplifting lunch that focused on the good, and we got to spend some lovely quality time together after a busy few weeks of the holidays.
stanley.
I got a Stanley cup for Christmas and it’s really quite nice. I’m obsessed with my 64 oz. HydroJug, so I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but it’s very cute and a nice change for when I don’t want to lug around a half gallon. Also, the handle is lovely.
snow.
At this point, I’m okay with no more snow for a few weeks, but it was really fun to have some pretty snow to walk and play in this winter. We don’t always get snow, so I’m grateful for it when we do get some.
bird feeder.
I’ve never had a bird feeder before and got one for Christmas, so this month I got some bird seed and set it up. I now have a solid little flock of birds and even got my first cardinal. Will and I both like to look at them out the window and refill the feeder together.
potty training?
I can’t say it’s a true “highlight” of January, but I can admit that we’ve had a lot of wins throughout the process. We have all learned a lot about each other, about ourselves, and have spent a lot of time together as a little unit, away from the world. Will is so smart and it’s been a great reminder to try to put myself in a two year old’s shoes, learning about how he thinks and learns. He’s a really fun kid and I’m so glad I get to be his mom. Even if he thinks that pushing his pants down to pee is a fun game instead of a requirement for using the potty.
Toddlers, man.
I’m a strong believer in fresh air, prayer and a good cup of coffee. Let’s be friends!
