A Thanksgiving Prayer

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all are having a lovely, relaxing morning (well, as relaxing as it can be if you’re cooking), enjoying the time with your coffee and family. I love Thanksgiving morning so much - it’s the perfect morning to hang in your pjs and watch the parade. Our morning is looking a little bit different, with toys all over the living room, but it’s all good.

I’m a little torn with today’s post, as it is the last Thursday of the month, so in theory, today’s post should be the November Highlights, but it’s also Thanksgiving. Last year, I wrote a short little Thanksgiving Prayer, and I really liked just taking the moment to thank Jesus for all the things.

So, if you’re particularly attached to the monthly highlights, I’m sorry, but I’m skipping it this month in the name of thanksgiving.

Dear Jesus,

You are so good. Even when things are hard, you’re good. Thank you for being with me every step of every day, and for the constant blessings you bestow upon me and my family.

Thank you for this holiday, where we can gather with loved ones and celebrate the blessings in our lives and enjoy a meal and fellowship together. Thank you for the love and joy of the day, and thank you for butter. It makes every dish better.

Thank you for those who surround me with love and support - my friends and family. I am so grateful for my people and I don’t know how I could do life without them. Lord, I don’t deserve the unconditional love they show me, but I know it comes from you. Thank you for my little family - Elliot and Will are more than anything I could have ever imagined and I feel so blessed to get to enjoy them every day.

Thank you for our nation, our freedom, and our leaders. Thank you for placing people in our government to lead and discern, and help me to accept them for who they are - your children - and love and respect them for the job they do. Thank you for those who are working today to keep others safe and healthy and risk their lives every day - healthcare workers, law enforcement and first responders. Thank you for our freedom and those who pay the cost of that freedom.

Thank you for my job and the opportunities it provides me and my family. Thank you for my home, even when it feels like it needs constant updating and repair, it is a safe and warm place for my family to live, rest, eat, host and love. Thank you for the safety I am provided in this country. There are so many places that are nowhere near as safe. Please be with those living in danger, war zones, poverty, and without shelter - keep your arms around them, give them strength and peace and protect them from evil.

Thank you for everything I didn’t mention - the little things, the taken-for-granted-things, the obvious ones and everything in between. Thank you for taking such good care of me all the time, even when I don’t notice. Thank you for everyone reading this right now, please be with them and help them feel a little extra love today. Be with us today and help us to remember that you are always by our sides and will never leave us. You are so, so good.

Amen.
