What I’ve Been Reading: March 2022

As a child, I LOVED to read. We made a weekly visit to the library, and I read every single Pony Pals and Saddle Club book I could get my hands on. In high school, I’m pretty sure I read almost every book in the young adult fiction section. I was such a regular, the school librarian, Mrs. Webber, would invite me to the back room when she got new shipments of books and let me choose one to borrow before they even hit the shelves.

When I made a Goodreads account a year or two ago, I tried to add all the books I had read over my lifetime, but I couldn’t. There’s no way I could possibly remember them all, but I’m really happy that this tool exists, so that I can save books that others tell me about, as well as keep track of what books I’ve read.

If you’re a reader, too, please add me as your friend here! I love to get great recommendations from friends.

For the last several months, I’ve been stepping up my reading game. In September of last year, I was inspired to cut out TV during the week. Since then, we’ve watched significantly less TV, and while I’m not making any rules about it, I still prefer to leave TV for the weekends. This leaves me with a lot more time during the week to read.

Last year was the first year I made a reading goal - 50 books in a year.

I did not meet that goal, but I’m trying again this year. In order to keep me accountable and share my progress, I’ve decided that, once a quarter, I’ll share what I’ve been reading.

When I decided to start a quarterly post (approximately 2 weeks ago), I realized that this week would be my first “reading post” of 2022.....and I just shared everything that I’ve read in my February Highlights. SO....this one will be a bit on the shorter side, (I’m sorry, I will get it together by next quarter, I promise).

Currently, I’ve read 8 books so far this year. I’m definitely behind, but I promise I’m working to catch up!

Here’s what I’ve been reading this past month!

The Wielder

This is the sequel to a YA novel I read on vacation this year. It’s a light and fun adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Definitely refreshing if you’re stuck in a string of romances or non-fiction. The best part - it was just released this past weekend!!! It’s brand-spanking new!

If you’d like to start at the beginning, check out The Combatant.

Stay tuned next week to hear a super-fun fact about this book!

American Dirt

This book has been popping up everywhere I go for months now, so I picked it up at the library. It’s a story about a woman and her son on a tough journey and the hardships along the way. It’s very realistic. While it was a tough read at some points (due to very real struggles that happen in other parts of the world), it allowed me to experience something from a new perspective.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
