5 Books I've Read This Summer (and 5 More On My List)

This week I’m taking a page out of my friend, Keri’s book. Haha get it? Because it’s about books?
But actually, she reads A LOT, and she’s so kind as to share with the general population (me) what’s new and good these days. I appreciate this public service of hers and legit get most of my book recommendations from her bookstagram, @readwithkeri. So…if you’re looking for something new to read, go check her out.
I also love to read, and I’ve read several good books in the last month or so, and I thought to myself,
“Self, I think my readers would like to hear about it.”
So here I am, doing my very first book post, and maybe one or two of you is looking for a book to take to the beach or the pool this summer. Maybe you’re not, and that’s cool too.
What IS hygge? It is essentially the feeling of being warm, cozy and relaxed. I didn't know what hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) was either, but as I've read more, I've learned that I am made for hygge. It is all of my favorite things, and I LOVE that it's an actual concept (and way of life) for Danes. I may need to visit Denmark now, just to enjoy the hygge.
Side Note: I went all in, and found this hygge playlist on Spotify, and now it's basically all I listen to when I'm working or reading. Do it. It is probably the most valuable piece of this entire post, so just listen, it will calm your soul.
This book was just so fun. I mentioned it in my June Highlights, but it's worth mentioning. It's just a light and interesting read, and it's really funny at times. Please read it. Actually, listen to it, I beg you.
If you're into historical fiction, this is right up your alley. I was in a mood where I had read several WWII historical fiction novels and this one was my favorite. It was heartfelt and realistic, and I always love a story where multiple storylines intersect. Lovely read.
Everything I Never Told You 3.5/5
I've read one other book by this author, Little Fires Everywhere, and both were a little twisty with a surprising but not surprising ending. I think my favorite thing about this book was the depth of the character development, and the fact that the ending was almost like what you would expect. It’s definitely a solid beach read, not too difficult, but a story that keeps you guessing.
Wow. Just wow. The introduction itself made me wish I could have met C.S. Lewis. I've read the Chronicles of Narnia and was always impressed by his ability to create such a deep story with symbolism to Jesus at every turn. It is a treasured series for me, and my love for those books piqued my interest with this one. At first, I thought it was a book, but it is actually a collection of sermons that Lewis preached, and they are...incredible. They're super deep and take a while to process, but so worth it. I haven't quite finished it yet, for this reason, but I will.
The next 5 on my list are...
How To Skimm Your Life by theSkimm
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
The Ride Of A Lifetime by Robert Iger
The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
I do try to keep a good mix of different types of books going, so hopefully there’s something you like here. If not, let me know, and I’ll add something new to my list! You can follow me on Goodreads and I’ll follow you back so we can give each other recommendations!
