It just occurred to me last week that it is officially summertime.

Which is, of course, a good thing. Summer is fun and light and we get to take a little bit of a break and enjoy the sunshine. That is, when it's not oppressively hot and humid out.

Moving on.

I love summer. Not as much as I love fall, but it's June, and we won't get ahead of ourselves.

Summer means margaritas and Shark Week, days at the beach and evenings that last forever. Summer is the smell of sweat and sunscreen and bug spray, and it's stopping at Rita's because why not?

Anyway, June has been all of those things. Except Shark Week. That's July 11th. For those of who you are interested.

I've been blessed to enjoy some extra time off this month, and although I was busy during that time, I also spent that time with loved ones, enjoying the sunshine and quality time.

So without further ado, here are my June Highlights!

The Girls' Birthdays.

I'm a dog mom, and last year, when we were months into the pandemic, I decided that I needed to at least have some family over for a cookout. I didn't really have a reason, but the girls' birthdays are both in June, so I decided to use that as an excuse to throw a party. Now it's an annual thing. We had perfect weather, enjoyed some food outside with the fam, and my babies are one whole year older!! They grow up so fast.

New Job.

About a week ago, I started my new job as a writer! Can you believe it?? It's okay, I can't either. Leaving my old job was bittersweet, as I loved so many wonderful people there and truly enjoyed working with them, but I'm super excited for this step in my career and I'm so happy and humbled that I get to write for work. Because I really like writing, if you didn't know that already.

Beach Days.

I realized that I didn't have a single beach day last summer. Which is unacceptable, because one of the main perks of living in Delaware is proximity to the beach. This month, I was able to have a little bit of extra time off between jobs. I was able to spend two days at the beach, as well as an afternoon on the boat with my dad and sister. I grew up going out on the boat several times a year, and spending time on the Sassafras. It's been so good for my skin and soul to have these opportunities to relax in the sunshine and soak up all the goodness of the water. So grateful.

Projects.

I've been busy finishing a few projects around the house, including my new blogging space, and some upcycled nightstands. Check them out at The Loft Makeover and A Beginner's Guide To Upcycling Furniture. They're cute, I swear.

The Way I Heard It.

Last but not least, is this book. I'll preface by saying that if you've seen me in the last two weeks, I've probably told you to check it out. I've never been one for audiobooks, mostly because I don't always like the narrator. I tried this one out as a recommendation from Keri (where I get 95% of my book recommendations, also, follow her bookstagram, @readwithkeri, she’s got great taste). Anyway, when I was painting and waxing my nightstands, I wanted to listen to something that wasn't a podcast and wasn't music (my two go-tos). I remembered seeing this one and it was perfect. Each chapter is a little mystery about a semi-famous person, but he doesn't tell you who it is til the end, so it keeps you guessing, and you're learning fun facts about real life history. Also, he tells funny stories about his own life along the way, and he is an excellent narrator. It checks all my boxes, and I have legitimately recommended it to people who don't like reading at all. It's just such a fun, light and enjoyable read, but also nonfiction. LOVE.

That's it for June! I hope you all had a wonderful month and I hope you're able to spend some time in the sunshine.

P.S. - Keep an eye out for Shark Week. It's coming up.

P.S.S. - Also, quick little garden update: It’s HUGE. It’s almost outgrown the bed. Spinach is done for the season, but we did get a decent amount for the short time it was alive. I’ve got TONS of tiny little cucumbers and a handful of baby zucchini!! Zuchs and Cucs for the win!
