October Highlights

It's been such a good October.

It went by way too quickly, but it was truly one of the best months all year.

It wasn't that anything in particular happened (I mean, I had a birthday, which was wonderful) but the joy and beauty was in the little things. The recipes I tried, the books I read, the activities I did - they were just really good for the soul and I'm here to share them with you.

Books

This month, I read a few different books. I read the first book in the Crescent City series, which is kind of a fantasy/adventure/mystery/romance type deal, and yes, I pre-ordered the next one (look, it’s a guilty pleasure, don’t judge). I also read The Midnight Library, which was a really cool take on mental health and life. I really enjoyed it and I would recommend it to literally anyone. The last book is Capital Gaines, by Chip Gaines (from Fixer Upper). I listened to this one as an audiobook, read by Chip himself. He is down-to-earth and wise, funny and smart. I love the way he weaves scripture throughout the book and talks about his faith, as well as his endeavors. Definitely give it a listen for your daily commute or walk, if you work from home.

Haircut

This is silly, but I really just have to share it, because it was a big deal to me.

My hair grows SO slowly. It always has, so I usually get away with getting my hair cut every 12 weeks or so. I don't change it up that much, and I don't color my hair, like, ever, so it's a low-maintenance situation. Well. My haircut was supposed to be in August, but somehow got rescheduled 3 times and finalIy happened on October 6th. I was DYING. Oh my gosh, I really can't even express to you how impatient I was and how awful my hair was. It was LONG and dead, didn't curl and felt like straw. At that point, I told her to chop off whatever she wanted. It just needed to GO. When I left, a huge weight had been lifted - both literally and figuratively. I now have 3-4 inches less and crazy, healthy curls. I'm still so happy about it, which I why I'm sharing it now.

So, you know, friendly reminder to schedule a hair appointment if you need one.

New Phone

For my birthday, my sweet husband got me a new phone! I'm that person who keeps their phone FOREVER, so....I had an iPhone 8 Plus. Like, with a home button. I know, it's wild. Anyway, it had been 3 1/2 years, and ooohhhhhh myyyyyy goodnesssss what a difference! It did take a few days to stop trying to scan my fingerprint, I'll admit. I got the 13 Pro, and it's safe to say I'm borderline obsessed with it. Also, I got a Loopy case for it. It's one of the best cases I've ever had, and I love the loop to keep from dropping your phone.  This is the one I got.

Only Murders In The Building

I've been a little torn this month on the TV thing. I LOVED not watching TV during the week during September, but here's the thing. I have a hefty list of Halloween and fall-themed entertainment that I like to enjoy during October. It doesn't exactly help me consume that entertainment when I'm only watching things on the weekends. Due to this conundrum, I've been a little looser on it. If I really want to watch something, I will. I recently heard about this new show on Hulu, Only Murders In The Building. It's kind of a whodunit with a fun cast and lots of twists and turns. I'm on episode 5 so far and enjoying a different kind of spooky thrill than the usual haunted or Halloweentown vibe. It does have a decent amount of language, so if that's not your jam, maybe skip it.
