A Few Of My Favorite Things: January Edition

I’m not totally sure why, but January seemed like a Forever-Long month. I don’t know if it’s the inconsistent weather, or the New Year, but I have been convinced it’s February for about a week now. It’s been a really fun month, just a heckin’ long one. I’ve been way busier than I expected to be, or wanted to be, but hey, that’s life. I feel like I’ve been going a million miles an hour since the New Year, and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon. BUT. For the first time in probably my entire life, I am so excited for February. As much as my calendar makes me want to pull my hair out, I cannot wait for February, because I get to meet my brand new favorite human. My best friend is due to have a precious baby boy in a week or so, and I am HERE. FOR. IT. And, you know, Valentine’s Day and whatnot.

So, without further ado, here are the new and fun things that have occurred during this gloriously never-ending month of January 2020. You’re welcome.

Dangly earrings. Okay, so in my 26th year of life as a female, I finally learned how to curl my hair. Its big and messy and I just love it. And then my sister got me a pair of big shiny dangly earrings, and I am obsessed. I’ve never had earrings this big before, and with my curly hair, I am Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I am a gypsy QUEEN and feel like a million bucks. 5 stars.

Chiropractor. Elliot and I started seeing a chiropractor this year, and he rocks. He’s honest, and excellent at what he does. Plus, my body makes all these terrifying noises when he does an adjustment. But in all honestly, I’m already seeing results and I’m super excited about getting my body and spine back on track. So if you’re debating on scheduling a consultation, just go for it. You might not realize how quickly you could be feeling better.

Photography (& accessories). Okay, so I have the sweetest husband. For Christmas, he wanted to get me a thoughtful gift, so he bought me a bunch of fun photography accessories that I can use to take photos for my blog. SO SWEET. I am now the proud owner of a sweet flash, a remote, a tripod, and some super cute props that have MY VERY OWN QUOTES on them. I can’t believe it. So this month, I’ve been slowly learning how to take better photos and use the new toys! And of course, the pups are my go-to models.

Veggie Pizza. I don’t care how lame it is, I am a huge fan of frozen pizza. Seriously, for $3-$5, anytime I want a pizza, I can have a melty, toasty pie come out of my oven in 20 minutes or less. It’s a no brainer. I recently found these veggie pizzas with zucchini and other assorted heavenly items and they are my new favorite thing.

DreamCloud. We FINALLY got a new bed. We have always planned on getting a king sized bed, and our queen wasn’t giving us the best sleep of our lives, so we did a lot of research, and looked at pretty much every bed on the market. So many mattresses are the kind that ship to your house, and it was a new concept so I wanted to make sure it was a good choice. We didn’t want a memory foam, and we prefer a mattress on the firmer side. We decided on the DreamCloud for several reasons. It’s a hybrid, so it has layers of gel and memory foams, as well as a spring base. It was highly rated in every category, from sleeping cool, to movement distribution, to back support. It also has a pillow top, and it’s 15 inches tall! But best of all, it came with a 365 trial, so there really was no risk at all. We’ve been snoozing on it for 3 weeks now, and have been sleeping like babies. If you’re looking for a new mattress, definitely check it out.

Burgundy Hair. Two years ago, I did a burgundy balayage, and I loved it. It was fun and cute and trendy, but it faded super quick, because that’s what red does. It faded to auburn in the summer and I let it grow out and haven’t colored it since. I got the itch to try something fun again, but I didn’t want to waste a bunch of money on a color that would fade in 4 seconds. I was chatting about it with a friend of mine (who is the QUEEN of fun hair, btw) and she offered to help me try a glaze, which is essentially a fancy conditioner-dye that doesn’t damage your hair and costs like $15 at Sally’s Beauty. (You can get it on Amazon here.) It turned out beautifully. AND, it hasn’t faded much at all, so now I have some lovely, subtle, raspberry hints in my hair, which makes me a very happy camper.

That’s all, folks. Now that I look at it, most of these are new things I tried this month, so yay for stepping outside comfort zones!! If you tried something new this month, comment below so we can all do new things together!

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3
